Poison Bottle #5

The Poison Bottle Block of the Month is the brain child of Misty Cole, over at Pick your Brain Designs.  http://www.mistycole.com/block-of-the-month/ She's a very talented quilter, and she is a friend, and fellow member of the quilt guild that I belong to The Southern Comforter's of Bowie.  Misty designed this Poison Bottle Quilt.

These blocks of the month are being offered for free for two months after they are released each month, and after the free two months they can be purchased directly from her site.  So this month I am making my version of Block #5 here on my blog.   It was fun, and a little challanging for me, since I mostly make peiced quilts.  But I did recently purchase a Scan N Cut to make cutting appliqué pieces for in the hoop embroidery on my embroidery machine (go figure?).  During the Blizzard of 2016 I took myself down to my sewing dungeon, and scanned the images into my Scan N Cut. Then cut them out with that handy dandy machine.

According to the history provided with the pattern the wasp waist was a rare find for collectors, and came in several sizes. And the original Neuraline bottle was tiny 1/2" deep x 1 3/8" tall.

After I cut them out I put them in the embroidery hoop, and embroidered Poison on both bottles, Neuraline on the green bottle, and some triangles on the blue Wasp Waist.  A little embroidery never hurts.

While looking through my fabrics for bottles I car across this shiny fabric, and knew I had to make more blocks.

 I enjoyed the process, and Misty's General directions are very clear and helpful.  I intend on trying some painting on my block #1.  Thank you Misty, I'm having fun during our snow days working on some poison.

Etsy Shop

Well I finally did it.  I finally took the advise of so many friends and family members and I opened an Etsy Shop.  Keeping with the blog name, my shop name is Quilting Nan.  So far I've only added a couple of things.  The Ring Bearer Pillows are made to order, anyone who knows a future Bride please steer her my way.  I love working with brides to make their Day special.  Personalized bridal accessories are some of my favorite things to make, next to quilts.  I will be adding baby shape books, also made to order.  Number books, and color books as suggested by a very good friend Sharon are in the works.

 I can also personalize shirts, hats, towels, bags, also know as embroidery blanks.  Blanks are fun, and easy, but any and all idea's are welcome.  I have friends who have called me to say "I need an apron" for the cubmaster of my son's Cub Pack, and so it is done.

So if you have something in mind, I'm your embroidery "girl".  I'm hopping that everyone will be patient with me, and help me to get my Etsy Shop out into the World Wide Web.  I'm a little scared, and very excited about my new adventure.

This was a block of the month from HGTV back in 2004!  I'm sure I must have started these blocks later in maybe 2005.  And it's been sitting in a box of UFO's (unfinished objects) for more then ten years!

Yesterday was National Chocolate Cake Day, and since I hadn't been out of the house since last Thursday I had to go out and get me some!

A Motorcycle Rider that Loved Football

A Motorcycle Rider that Loved Football, that would be my big brother.  He loved all things sports (Football, Baseball (A die hard New York Yankees fan even though he grew up in Maryland), Hockey, Basketball), and his Honda Goldwing Touring Motorcycle.  He had lots of shirts, and miles riden on his Goldwing.  The most attendance at Rallys "Winterthings" Ocean City Maryland, "Wingdings", the most miles ridden, most chapter visit's.  You name it, they would say, "oh yeah, that was Ken".  He didn't miss a chance to ride his motocycle.  How I miss my big brother...
Shirts, most of them, and this is just the five main ones for the "five sibblings" quilts, are ready to be stitched into memorie quilts for me and my sisters, and brother.  I hope to do my dear brother proud...

Finished and Mailed

Finally, I mailed these two quilts to Mary in Florida!  The quilts have been finished since November, but I wanted to use up all the fabric's I had so I made them each a pillowcase with their name embroidered on them.  I love the way they turned out, and I can't wait to hear what Mary thinks of them.

Missing Retreat

In a past life I belonged to a "B" (a Quilting Bee").  We use to meet on the opposite Wednesday's of our quilt guild meetings.  Most of the member's moved away, and we just sort of fell apart.  Well fast forward to November 2015, and a retreat was planned.  I was invited to join in all the quilty fun, but life got in the way, and I wasn't abel to get myself together to join in on the fun with my B.  And then I went back to work at the LQS, and met with old friends who were planning on retreating this weekend.

A thoughtful gesture, for retreating fun.

I immediately jumped on the "retreat" bandwagon.  But then quickly realized that 1. My house is a wreck, and 2.  Thanksgiving is this coming this Thursday.  So needless to say I will not be retreating, and probably very little sewing will be going on around here.  (sad face)
