Lupus Walk

A beautiful day in the DC Metro area.  An old high school friend's wife has Lupus and today was an Lupus awareness walk in Washington.  My daughter and I, and the Grandbabies headed to the metro by 8:30am, the boys love riding the train!:-)
The walk takes place down Pennsylvania Ave. NW towards the Capital.
The sun was shining and lots of people showed up to support friends, or family members.  We had a nice morning and were home by 11:30.  No sewing today, but rain and cold weather are forcasted for tomorrow.  I will be in the sewing room for sure.  Until then, happy sewing to you all.

A day without the boys

I slept in until 7:30 this morning.  I didn't watch my two busy Grandson's, and their four legged puppy today.  So what did I do with my day?  Sewed a little, and attempting to clean/purge my sewing room.  I say attempting because it looks like it might be an on going event.  I have accumulated quite a bit of stuff in the 13 years of living here in this house.  I've got piles all over the floor, and tabletops, and I'm trying to focus on one pile or drawer at a time.  I found a box with lots of random quilt blocks waiting to become a quilt.
These little cuties were the block of the month back in February 2009 which I won.  I love the colors it looks like a box of chocolates!  There are 16 blocks and they will finish at 9 inches.  So right now it's 36ins. X 36ins. I'm thinking it needs a couple or few borders, with maybe some pinwheel corner stones.   Hopefully this week-end that will happen since the boy's will be here bright and early tomorrow morning, and no sewing will be happening with them here.
So it's getting late, and 6:00am will be here before I know it so happy sewing to you until next time.

Starting the weekend off right

So yesterday (Friday 13th, 2012) me and one of my quilty friends went to "And Sew it Goes". An area quilt store that is sadly going out of business.  My friend drive's (a lot) back and forth to her Greadchildren's house") far from the little town we live in, so (being the "friend" that I am) I stepped up to the plate and drove her in my little two seater convertible (that's what friend's are for) (the things I'll do for a friend!:-)  After a successful shopping trip we headed to www.eggspectations.com/ Brunch was "Delish", and we took our time talking and enjoying being with each other.
When I got home, there in my driveway was our Truck (hubby's and mine)...Meaning my son in law had been there while I was out, and dropped off the truck.  And the most important thing is "I missed seeing my boy's! My two Grandson's".  So my brain was spinning!  I have to see my little boy's.  So lets have a family dinner at Nan & Pop's.  Phone calls took place, a trip to Safeway, and family fun began!
I made hamburgers with "Lipton Onion Soup", Hot Dogs, and homemade potato salad, and corn on the cob.  What a way to end a Friday 13th.
Anticts, and happy times were soon to follow after that wonderful dinner.
Hubby and I got up this morning and life was new in the Springtime in Maryland.  Mulch was bought by the truck load, and pollin was washed from cars.  The sun was shinning, birds were singing and flying, and it was a peacefull easy afternoon. Tonight's dinner was Meatballs, and brussel sprouts.
I can hardly move after that yummy dinner, but there is always tomorrow when the fullness of a meat will ware off.  One can only hope...  Anyway, happy sewing to yolu all.  Summer is on it's way...

Opening Day Baseball!

Sewing? Did someone say sewing?  Well no I haven't sewed at all today.  Today was the National's Opening Day Game. And DH bought tickets for he and DS, who is out of town on a conference, so I had to step in a "take one for the team".  We couldn't let that paid for ticket go to waste. Even though DBL would have gone if I hadn't been able to.  We had a great time, it was a sunny day, though cold.
Free hats were given out to the first 20,000 fans.  Yeah!  There was a fly over which I did not capture, I was so surprised (even though it was a given, being we are here in the Nation's Capital)...Marine Corp Band played America the Beautiful & the National Anthem.  Service Members pulled this beautiful flag across the field.
And to top off the day we won!  Cincinnati Reds gave it a good try, they tied it up in the 9th inning, 2 - 2, but we held them in extra inning 10 and got a run on a wild pitch!!  To win 2 - 3, what a Game!  So until next time, happy sewing.

Found Treasures

Today only cleaning was done.  Boring...DH was wonderful during my grunt work.  He went out and got lunch and ordered pizza for dinner, he knows me so well.  Once I get started I'm like the energizer bunny, I'll keep going, and going!  While going through a pile of paper's I found two Candelwicking kits started, but never finished.
This Teddy Bear Pillow Kit is 80% finished.  The copy right for this kit is 1983, I was in my 20's when I started it, and it looks like I didn't read the directions because it looks like I used all 6 strands of embroidery floss.  Oh well, I want to finish this and maybe use it in the center of a quilt.  It really is cute.
This Wolf kit was a Christmas gift from my brother in Law, I can't find a copy right date, but he must have given it to me in the late 90's, early 2000's.  Only a small portion is finished, but I love it, and want to get started finishing it.  So even though I really didn't want to clean today it turned out to be a good thing.  I now have some "hand work" projects to work on during B meetings and Guild meetings.  I have a hugh bag of trash going out of the house, some clothe's to donate, lots of clean clothe's to wear, and quite a bit less dust floating around, and found treasures that made it all worth my "blood, sweat, and tears".  Tomorrow is a new day, and I feel certain that sewing is in my future.  So until next time, happy sewing to you all!

A small finish, is still a finish

Well here it is, finished reverse applique Easter Egg. Framed and hung with beautiful fresh flowers on the table in my entrance hallway.  I'm not going to lie either, I really like the way it turned out. :-)
Here's a close up, I was thinking of adding some quilting to the background, but nixed that idea after I added those green pompom's, now I think it is enough.  And my thrift store frame is just right too.  I just tacked the egg to the frame in the back, so I'm thinking every holiday can be represented here in this great little frame to greet my family and friends when they arrive.  So a finish for me is always a good thing, I've got more idea's bubbling in my head, so happy sewing to you until next time.

Here come's Peter Cotton Tail...

Easter is this Sunday, and I haven't made any plans. Today I worked on an Easter Egg made out of ribbons and is reverse applique. I found the idea from"Pintrest" and the orginal idea was for a Shamrock, which I never got around to doing (due to the suprise trip to Michigan over St. Patrick's Day weekend). This is the site  www.sewastraightline.com/2010/03/messy-ribbon-reverse-applique.html The above picture is what I have so far. Her idea is to put the egg in a frame tied with a ribbon, so I made a trip to my local thrift store and found this awesome frame for $4.90! The picture inside the frame is a bonus which I will not be using.
Today was a warm cloudy day, I had a few errands to run, weeded our raised garden boxes, sewed, and went to my "B" meeting.  I should be able to finish this up tomorrow and will post a picture.  So for now happy sewing to you.
